airtel Zambia is the leading telecom service provider in the country by customer base, serving over 11 million customers nationwide. Our network covers 91.6% of the population, supported by close to 4000 tower sites managed through our TowerCo partners. In the last five years, we have invested over US$240 million in network infrastructure to enhance coverage, capacity, and quality across the country.

Globally, rank amongst the top 3 telecom service providers in the world in terms of subscriber numbers. We are spread across 16 countries in Africa and Asia with over 394 million customers across our operations. Airtel invested an initial 10.7 billion dollars in the business, which is the single largest investment in Africa in recent years.

airtel now has the highest spectrum in 800 band at 20 Mhz that is enabling the best indoor 4G experience in Zambia.

airtel also has the highest spectrum in 2600 at 90 Mhz, that will enable best 4G/5G experience on Airtel. Best in class Massive Mimo radio equipment is being used to launch of 4G TD along with 5G.

With the 800-band harmonization done in Sep 2022, thanks to efforts of ZICTA, Airtel 4G indoor experience is now much superior. The 900-band spectrum harmonization was also initiated in Dec 2022, which will enable improved 3G voice experience of users with efficient use of spectrum.

Bharti Airtel Limited has a 93.90% shareholding in Airtel Zambia whilst the remaining 6.10% of Airtel’s shares are held by various individuals and institutions. airtel Mobile Commerce Zambia Limited is currently a wholly owned airtel subsidiary operating as a mobile money service provider within Zambia.

There are currently 4 MNOs in Zambia – airtel, MTN, Zamtel, ZedMobile.

The GSM landscape is regulated by the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (“ZICTA”) – they not only regulate all GSM service providers but all providers of ICT services and products. Find the more information about ZICTA on www.zicta.zm.

As of March 2024, 11.1M out of which 7.5M have subscribed to data services.

Is Airtel listed on the Lusaka Securities Exchange?

Yes. airtel Networks Zambia Plc is listed on the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE), where it treades under the ticker symbol ATEL.

airtel has a healthy history of declaring dividends. For the year ended December 2023, airtel declared a final dividend of K3.50/share. For 2024 an interim dividend of K2.15/share and final dividend of K 4.65/share. For 2025 an interim dividend of K3.51/share.
